The Laura Moore Cunningham Foundation is dedicated to advancing the great State of Idaho. We believe that this is a wonderful place to live, work and raise a family. For nearly fifty years, we have provided support to organizations that make this state great. Through family leadership and low costs, we have maximized the funds we can provide through our two main efforts, a scholarship program and a competitive grants program.
PROVIDING SCHOLARSHIPS TO PROMISING STUDENTS THROUGHOUT IDAHO
Since its inception, the Foundation has provided scholarships to Idaho's college students. Today, we provide over 450 scholarships (nearly two million dollars) every year to students at the University of Idaho, Idaho State University, Boise State University, College of Idaho, Northwest Nazarene University, Lewis Clark State College, North Idaho College, College of Southern Idaho, College of Western Idaho, Treasure Valley Community College, Eastern Idaho Technical College and BYU-Idaho. Students routinely tell us that removing part of their financial burden allows them to focus on their studies and extracurricular activities, allowing them more opportunities to grow and learn during their college years. Our investment in these students will benefit Idaho communities throughout their lives as they become business owners, leaders, educators and volunteers, shaping the future of Idaho.
The scholarships are provided through each school's financial aid office based on criteria the Foundation provides to them. We cannot accept applications from or provide scholarships directly to individuals.
PROVIDING CONSISTENT SUPPORT TO IDAHO'S NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS
Each year the Foundation accepts applications from throughout the State, allowing organizations of all types to express their need. Each year those needs change, but we are consistently impressed with the good work these organizations are doing in Idaho. There are so many volunteers and community leaders throught Idaho who make each community more successful. From after school programs and field trip bussing to providing breakthrough technologies to improve rural medicine, the Foundation has been able to aid communities throughout the State.
Very few foundations offer such an open and simple application process (go to "Applying for Grants" tab for specifics), but we believe that the members of each community know better what they need than we do. One of the hardest things each year is having to tell some of those people that we just could not fund their project.
SPENDING MONEY ON IDAHO NOT ON MANAGEMENT
The Foundation has no paid staff. The family members serving as Directors are never paid and rarely even reimbursed for out of pocket expenses. By law we could receive substantial salaries for the time and work we put into our efforts, but we just feel that money could be better used helping Idaho.
